Classes & Teachers

Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa Flow is connected rhythmic practice focusing on inquiry of body, breath, heart, and expression. Explore playful warming movements, breath work techniques, heated postures, and sequenced integration as you hone your ability to observe, feel, and listen to your practice. Cultivate empowerment, respond to life’s natural waves with greater skillfulness and ease, and receive the majesty of all that is. All levels welcome.

Prana Flow
Prana Flow is a transformation, dynamic, creative full-spectrum approach to embodying the flow of yoga. This style was founded and cultivated by Shiva Rea and the Global Vinyasa Collective of Teachers. Students of all levels are empowered to experience prana – the universal source of breath, life energy and conscious intelligence – as the navigating source of yoga practice and vital living. Practitioners learn classical and innovative approaches to vinyasa yoga and the state of flow drawn from Krishnamacharya’s teachings, Tantra, Ayurveda, and Bhakti. All levels welcome.

Anusara
Anusara means “flowing with Grace.” A heart-oriented and spiritually inspiring style of yoga, Anusara is grounded in the Universal Principles of Alignment, as created by Anusara’s founder, John Friend. It is a uniquely integrated style of hatha yoga in which the artistic glory of the human heart blends magically with the scientific principles of biomechanics. Through vigorous
poses, specific alignment, keen self awareness, and attention to energy, Anusara students will find themselves tapped into a river of Grace. All levels welcome.

Jivamukti
Jivamukti Yoga is a method which reintegrates the physical, philosophical & spiritual aspects of Yoga. Jivamukti was developed in 1984 by its world-famous founders, Sharon Gannon & David Life, and is practiced around the world. Class involves an ever changing flow of postures (vinyasa) that is intended to challenge you on many levels. Each class revolves around a theme based on ancient wisdom and emphasizes the importance of practicing with an elevated intention. Chanting, meditation, and inspiring
music are always included. The name Jivamukti (pronounced Jee-va-mook-tee), taken from the Sanskrit jivan ~ individual soul / mukti ~ liberation, meaning liberation while still living in the body. The goal of this practice is to help you attain your fullest potential, in every sense — physical, spiritual, intellectual and emotional. All levels welcome.

Restorative
This gentle style of yoga uses soothing and well-supported poses to provide us the opportunity to linger quietly for a few moments and savor the peace within us. Through forward bends (to release the low back and quiet the mind), back bends (to energize you, to open the chest and stimulate your spine), twists (to wring out the internal organs, freeing up stagnant energy), inversions (to balance your hormone and lymphatic systems), and hip openers (to improve the way you walk, sit, stand, etc.), you will start to release blockages, both muscular and energetic, while your nervous system gets a bubble bath. This class is open to all levels, including beginners.

Falun Dafa
Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong is a traditional Chinese self-cultivation practice that improves mental and physical wellness through a series of easy to learn exercises, meditation and development of one’s Heart/ Mind Nature (Xinxing). The spiritual practice is based on the universal principals of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. Cultivation” means continuously striving to better harmonize oneself with these universal principles. “Practice” refers to the exercises – five sets of easy-to-learn gentle movements and meditation. This class is complimentary and is open to all levels, including
beginners.

Hatha
This gentle class focuses on an exploration of basic yoga poses and how to connect them through attention to breathing, alignment and mindfulness. Therapeutic in nature, you will learn techniques to help you gain flexibility, while immersing yourself in a relaxing class that moves at a perfectly slower pace – allowing ample time to enjoy each pose. Expect lots of deep stretching & lingering in floor poses. Meditation and relaxation techniques will also be introduced, perfect for stress relief and overall well
being. This class is open to all levels, including beginners.

Prenatal Flow
Pregnancy is a special time to appreciate the beauty of life, and a yoga practice is the perfect expression of that gratitude. We’ll focus on breath awareness during a rhythmic flow of dynamic and restorative postures, while honoring the changing needs of pregnancy through modifications and instruction on proper anatomical alignment. Experience a safe, supportive environment where we use the power of breath to transform the discomforts of pregnancy, general stress and fear associated with childbirth into strength, peace of mind and joyful surrender.

Bindu Yoga For Kids
Yoga helps children see the beauty and light within themselves, boosting their self-confidence, allowing them to feel more comfortable with their bodies, and helping them get in touch with who they are inside. Your child will enjoy a playful mix of asanas (yoga poses) and yoga philosophy sprinkled with breathing games and kid friendly meditation techniques. Recommended for ages 2 1/2-6. Older siblings welcome and parent participation is encouraged.

Kim Joy

Kim has a deep desire to give back to others what yoga has given to her.  She was introduced to yoga after receiving her Master’s degree in physical therapy in 1997.  Her evolution in yoga included several styles; beginning with Bikram and moving into Anusara, Anahata and Prana Vinyasa flow.  After seeking a more restful practice to balance her active classes and busy lifestyle, she began her study of Anjali Restorative yoga in 2005.  Through this nurturing, mindful restorative practice, her knowledge and love of yoga and meditation expanded, calling her to teach.  She was certified as a teacher of Anjali Restorative Yoga in 2007.  In 2009 she began assisting her teacher, the founder of Anjali, with teacher trainings.

Kim’s classes provide a space for profound rest, rejuvenation, healing and transformation.  By supporting the body with bolsters and blankets and supporting the mind with a gentle, uplifting guided meditation there is the creation of intentional rest, allowing students to tap into their own innate healing wisdom and evolve into the fullness of themselves.

Kristi Petersen

She believes in the invigorating power that yoga offers the mind, body and spirit.

Kristi Petersen is a San Diego native. She has spent most of her time near the ocean and has found a deep spiritual connection with it. After studying dance since the age of three, she found yoga as a deeper way of going inside and connecting with her one true self. After her first class she was hooked. When a car accident left her with fractured vertebrae she drew upon her knowledge of yoga to help heal and relieve the intense pain caused by her injuries.

She began her practice of yoga seven years ago and completed her Yoga Alliance certification through the Nosara Yoga Institute located in Nosara, Costa Rica. Her practice is inspired by the teachings of her instructors which include but are not limited to: Tim Miller, Shiva Rea, Don and Amba Stapleton, Stephen Cope, Jon Friend, Dharma Mittra and Ana Forrest. She is currently completing her B.A. in Psychology and is continuing her education in ayurveda, massage therapy, and nutrition.

Laura Munkholm

After 3 years of teaching Hatha and Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Laura felt drawn to explore the prenatal and postpartum yoga world. She trained with Yoga Well and Jolie Cash at Nature’s Whisper School of Yoga to obtain her prenatal certifications. The time preparing for childbirth is a beautiful and unique time in a woman’s life. She hopes to guide women through this exciting time by nurturing the body, mind and soul. It is an opportunity for women to retreat into a place of peace as they prepare to welcome a new life into the world. As the body changes through pregnancy, yoga can help alleviate the discomforts in the body and can be an outlet to connect more deeply to the soul within you. Laura wishes to offer women a space to connect with each other and learn about the prenatal experience. She would like to empower women by offering knowledge, body awareness and confidence that they can have to birthing experience they desire. Laura recently gave birth to a daughter, Hanna Sage, and is excited to be back in the birthing community! During her pregnancy she saw that she was able to incorporate Vinyasa Flow yoga with her growing belly. Her classes will offer gentle yoga options as well as an opportunity for women to flow and move in their bodies to create the strength they need for their birthing day.

Lauren Duke

Lauren began her training in San Francisco through the Yoga of devotion or Bhakti Yoga with Rusty Wells. She later lived within the community of the Nosara Yoga Institute in Nosara, Costa Rica where she studied and trained in interdisciplinary Yoga, Lauren says that, “Yoga is everywhere, we just need to wake up and see all of the beauty around us even in the most difficult shift or movements.” She has studied with Donn and Amba Stapleton of the Kripalu Institute and teaches a free flow class, full of energy, creativity and music that makes you want to move. “Movement is life. That is one thing that we can never deny ourselves.” She adheres that if the practitioner can just be open to whatever may be coming, then the practice of Yoga as life can be simple yet profoundly satisfying. Lauren’s classes provide a platform for growth. Guided by the energy of the group her classes can be rigorous or slow and deep. She encourages that students listen to where their bodies and minds are at in any given moment. This inquiry is the foundation of Yoga. Knowing that yoga can help people to break down the boundaries that they have created around themselves and reignite their own fire and love within. It is not until we separate from everything else, that we can then find union.

Xenia Brat

I had my first ‘real’ yoga class during a Fasting Retreat. It was Ashtanga. I don’t know if it was truly the class or the lack of nutrients. But, after class I remember feeling happy, lightheaded, and most certainly wanting more. Since then I have completed teacher trainings in Kripalu yoga, Bhakti Flow, and Power Vinyasa. I’ve had the opportunity to learn from great teachers like Baron Baptiste, Ana Forrest, Duncan Wong, Janet Stone, and my primary teacher and source of inspiration Rusty Wells. I have been teaching yoga for eight years. Practicing yoga has empowered me to make some radical decisions in my life. By “radical”, I mean out of my comfort zone, which borders on safety and certainty. Yoga has taught me to explore my edge, color outside the lines, and every so often, just Be Unreasonable. Most recently, I decided to quit my Senior-level Web Developer job with the State to fulfill my dream of becoming a yoga teacher full time. While I’m at it, I figured I might as well up the ante by moving to a town where I don’t know anybody. Sunny San Diego it is. (I’m not completely insane!) For years, I have been teaching, “Do what you Love”; the time has come to walk this talk.
